[아유경제=송하성기자] 수원시와 포천시가 안전행정부의 ‘2014년도 외국인주민 집거지 환경개선사업’ 공모에 선정돼 관내 다문화시설 리모델링 및 다국어 안내 표지판 설치에 나설 수 있게 됐다.

이 사업은 외국인주민 집중거주지의 열악한 환경을 개선하고 안정적 정착을 지원하기 위한 것으로 전국 6개 지자체에 총 7억원의 예산이 지원된다.

최근 안전행정부에 따르면 수원시는 수원시외국인복지센터(사진) 리모델링 사업에 국비 1억5000만원(시비 6400만원), 포천시는 보안등 및 다국어 안내 표지판 설치에 국비 7000만원(시비 3000만원)을 지원받게 됐다.

수원시는 확보된 예산으로 수원시외국인복지센터의 교육실 및 상담실 확보, 옥상 정원 조성 등의 건물 리모델링을 실시하게 되며 포천시는 외국인주민 주거지의 보안등 및 다국어 안내 표지판을 설치할 계획이다.

이번 사업은 무엇보다 수원시와 포천시의 다문화 담당자들이 공모사업 선정을 위해 적지 않은 노력을 기울인 결과여서 주목을 받고 있다.

정호현 수원시청 여성정책과 다문화팀장은 “수원시외국인복지센터가 협소해 교육에 어려움을 겪어 왔으나 공모사업 선정을 통해 환경개선을 할 수 있게 돼 다행이다”며 “결혼이주여성 및 외국인 근로자들이 보다 쾌적한 환경에서 교육을 받을 수 있도록 계속 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

Suwon and Pochun have been chosen for a project

Suwon and Pochun cities have been picked for “The 2014 project to improve expat residence” and now they are able to renovate many multi cultural facilities and set up signs in many different languages.

This project is to improve the environments for foreign residents and support them to settle in Korea with ease and is sponsored by six different local governments and the cities will receive seven hundred thousand dollars for the project.

According to Safety Administration, Suwon city is promised to get one hundred fifty thousand dollars from the Korean government. Pochun city will get seventy thousand dollars from the government.

With the financial supports, Suwon city is planning to renovate Suwon expat welfare center, and Pochun is planning to improve security in the area where expats live and set up multi language signs.

Above all, this project attracts public attention since many institutes made a lot of efforts to be picked for the project.

Jung Hohyun, the leader of the women policies and multi-culture department, said, "I am very relieved that we are able to get an opportunity to improve the environments for foreign residents and I will continue to do my best to improve education for the kids of foreign workers."
